This magenta- rimmed wine smells of roasted walnut shells, burning newspaper and elderberries. The rather unyielding palate follows with a brief horizon of black currant and damp earth aromas. The firm attack leads to a lean, black fruit core surrounded by tangy acidity and lightly coarse tannins, but the fruit can’t quite overcome the structure. Enjoy this in its fresh, youthful stage, as the moderately concentrated fruit is rather straightforward. Drink now–2020.
