Deeply flushed scarlet color with a pale cherry rim. This wine’s core is lightly veiled, suggesting it may not be fined or filtered. The closed nose ekes out aromas of grilled venison, damp earth, musty cellar and pine bark. In stark contrast, cherries and dried, sweetened cranberries gush from the palate. The acidity is surprisingly racy on this taut, medium-bodied wine. The tannins are mild and faintly grainy. A very pleasant, very Old World wine with simple flavors and a short finish that incorporates ash notes. Drink now to 2015 but there’s no need to wait.
