This wine has an inky, opaque core with a tiny crimson edge. Its nose is sultry with notes of charcoal, tar, boysenberry and bitter chocolate. The flavors echo the nose and add minerals, black plum and animale. Mid weight on the palate, the wine’s tannins are gangly and its acidity is marked. This is a food wine best paired with rustic cuisine. Though the wine finishes medium in length, it only has modest concentration, suggesting an earlier drinking window. Drink 2013 –2015.
