Onyx black almost to the rim, this wine may be brooding in appearance, but it has an inviting, effusive nose of fireplace embers, toasted wood and dark chocolate. The palate follows with the same, making it tough for the black currant and cassis fruit flavors to show through. The hulky midpalate, with a touch of alcoholic warmth, is framed by generous acidity. Creamy tannins envelop the palate and turn vaguely dry on the medium finish. Made in a highly concentrated, muscular style this is nonetheless a balanced and classy wine. Drink now–2025.
