Jet black at the core, this wine has a deep yet bright maroon rim. The nose is overt and fresh, if rather brooding, with prominent black fruits. Black currant, plum skin and raisin dominate the fragrances. The palate is as big and dense as the nose promises, showing broad and leathery tannins emphasized by intensely vivacious acidity. Tones of red cherries, menthol and fallen tree trunks add to the medium complexity on the palate. The moderate, savory and earthy finish shows a touch of heat but isn’t unpleasant. Drink now–2019.
