Petit 2011 Petit de Joanne Cox  Carignan-Grenache (Montsant)

abv: 14.5% | Price Tier: $$

This wine’s carbon-black color edges off to reveal dark magenta at the rim. The nose offers ripe scents of macerated black cherries, prunes, whole cloves, cola and tarmac. With such a big nose, the palate is surprisingly medium-bodied, with no gloopy viscosity, but rather, refreshment in the form of brisk acidity and lightly tugging tannins that frame the clean mulberry, blueberry and acai fruit. The moderately layered finish lingers, and there’s plenty of structure-driven versatility here. This works equally well alone or with food. Drink now through 2018.
