A deep Bordeaux color with streaks of pencil lead, the nose shows a combination of sweet and savory aromas replete with oaky overtones. There is light but pleasant volatile acidity. Black and red raspberry and red plum combine with saffron strands. Caramelized undertones are surprising but welcome. Fresh rosemary and sage arrive on the finish. A pleasant—if unusual—wine with a moderate finish. Drink now through 2014.
