Château la Baume 2013
Rhône-style Red Blend (Saint-Chinian)
This gleaming morello cherry-colored wine has a black core and a candied-cherry nose. On the attack, there’s also lavender, crushed rose petals, blueberry and fresh tarragon. The palate’s fruit is vibrantly fresh, pure and more savory than expected given the confected aromas on the initial sniff. The wine is faintly tugging on the midpalate, with pleasantly dusty, dry tannins. The finish is modest, but the wine is an easy sipper, with just enough softness and acidity that also allow it to work well with a wide range of medium-weight foods. Drink now–2017.
