Merlot (Somontano)

Tar black at the core, with brilliant inflections of rusty red toward the rim, this glass-coating red smells as brooding and moody as it looks. Char-grilled, dry-aged steak, mirin sauce, North African spices and iodine fill the nose. They are joined by tart blackberries and crunchy blackcurrants on the palate. The wine’s full body is bolstered by searing acidity and lightly grippy tannins. There is no obvious new oak, but the flavors are highly ripe, showing in waves of black raisins and dried blackcurrants dusted with cinnamon.
