Nova Vita Wines 2013 Firebird
Shiraz (Adelaide Hills)
|
This imposing-looking wine is beetle shell black from the core to the dark purple rim. The fruit is reserved on the nose, but notes of graphite and asphalt shoot up from the glass. The fruit on the palate is straightforward, with freshly picked black plums and blackberries. The tannins are firm and lightly splintery, and the acidity is pronounced. With a nice piece of meat, this can work, but it’s tough enough that it would be hard to have a second glass. Given the short finish and modest complexity, this won’t evolve much with age, so enjoy it now through 2017.
