Hare's Chase 2020 Vigilance Marananga
Shiraz (Barossa Valley)
This is impressively dark and raven-esque in appearance in the glass. Popping with freshly ground black pepper on the nose, this wine's aromatics also have a strong yet pleasant, roasted meat undertone. Baked red and black plums sprinkled with balsamic saturate every crevice of the palate. There is a pleasant vinosity, powdery, mouth-coating tannins and slightly tart yet balancing acidity. This is clearly ambitious—thanks especially to its substantial finish—yet slightly off-kilter. I suspect that this bottle is not quite showing its best.
