This Barolo has an intense garnet core with a pale, small garnet rim. The lifted nose shows hints of tobacco and fallen leaves and bushels of macerating cherries and red plums. On the palate, lit cigar flavors take center stage, showing this wine has marked several years in barrel and bottle. The flavors are quite mature but are far from seen their last day. The tannins are fine-grained and lightly drying–perfect for the table. The supporting acidity is delicately balanced and suggests this wine can age a while. Drink now through 2016. The medium finish and good bit of age suggests this is approaching peak, regardless of its traditional style, but it could hold a while nonetheless.
