Syrah (Pays d'Oc)

This deep-colored, mulberry-hued wine is tinged with magenta and purple. Its nose is forward and primary, smelling of fig coulis, blackberry pie filling and fireplace cinders. The wine feels almost clingy, coating the medium-weight palate with a light layer of viscosity. The acidity is tart and very noticeable, sticking out in particular on the finish. The palate is loaded with tart black cherries, sloe jam and seared beef notes. This would work best in a casual bar or pub. Drink now through 2017.
