This wine is impenetrable in its deep black color almost all the way to the rim. The nose is very reluctant, even with a good bit of swirling. It’s a touch medicinal and also smells of plastic bags. Black fruit notes lurk behind. The palate adds a generous dollop of vanilla extract, cardamom and grilled bread. The lifted acidity and slightly coarse tannins make this a food wine. Drink now through 2017.
