Château L'Espigne 2019 Jean Cassignol
Rhône-style Red Blend (Fitou)
This wine is full throttle, the bold, clean nose smells of blackberry, wild thyme and licorice. The palate echoes the same, and the flavors are very pent up on the firm palate. The attack is immediately dry, but the tannins are well-placed with a pleasantly astringent firmness. The acidity tingles on the moderate finish but does not aggressively enhance the tannins. Interestingly, the body feels rather light in concentration for such overt, forward flavors and rather substantial alcohol. Drink from late 2022–2025.
