This jet-black wine shows impressive color saturation. Its rather straightforward nose is wound up in youthful angst for now, but the palate is more demonstrative, showing blackberries, cassis, fresh fig paste and violets. In fact, with about half an hour of air, enormous flavor punches out of the glass. The flavors drift into a sultry realm of cracked black pepper and creosote, while the pleasantly pithy palate offers layers of texture that lead into the lingering finish. The nicely full-bodied and viscous palate shows tannic crunch and zippy acidity, suggesting this well-concentrated wine should age nicely. Drink now–2022.
