Hither & Yon 2013 Grenache Mataro

Red Blend (McLaren Vale)

Pronounced mulberry in color with mahogany hues, this wine looks like its more than a few years out of vintage. The nose follows suit, with its full-blown leathery notes. There’s a lot of mulberry, sweet spice and stewed red plums on the palate. The tannins are lightly dusty but not harsh and the acidity is spritely and well-placed. This wine would be better with a meal, especially considering the elevated, though balanced, alcohol. Drink now through 2018.
