Malbec (Tupungato)

Stunningly black wine with star-bright reflections. The nose refuses to show fruit but is laden with fresh concrete, bubbling tar, licorice, and interestingly, freshly grated ginger. The briefest appearance of blackberry on the palate is soon swept away by beef jerky and pine sap notes. Weighty with high alcohol, the wine nonetheless shows vibrant acidity, which keeps the structure upright. This rather rigid, young wine requires hearty food lest its sinewy tannins keep the taster from finishing the glass. Lingering finish with integrated oak. Drink now—2018.
