Les Vignerons de Maury 2018 Nature de Schiste
Rhône-style Red Blend (Maury Sec)
This dark red has flashy, crunchy blackberry and black currant aromas riddled with an edgy note suggesting schiste or volcanic soils. The palate kicks in some baked black cherries and roasted figs. There is a strong balsamic imprint, the wine is just a touch too volatile. Full-bodied with a nicely creamy midpalate, the alcohol is very much in place thanks to the subtle, fine tannins and gently lifting acidity. The palate is remarkably well-balanced, but the volatile note is a bit nerve-racking. Better to drink sooner rather than later, now–2022.
