Dark and brooding, this wine’s appearance resembles prune juice in its color. The nose smells of sweet spice and baked berry cobbler. The palate is reminiscent of the roses, orange peels and cinnamon sticks of a potpourri basket. There’s also an interesting grilled plum edge. Generous and mouth-filling, it has plenty of vivacious acidity to keep its light succulence in check. The tannins are lightly grippy and don’t cut the moderate finish short. A very nice drink, but it lacks some layered complexity and overall energy. Drink now through 2016.
