Were there sediment or turbidity in this wine, one would never know as it is resolutely pitch black. Its nose is enticing but mysterious, offering blackberry coulis, seared fig and incense. The palate exhibits more freshness than expected, with strikingly concentrated dark fruit flavors of black currant and loganberry. Tablespoons of allspice accompany and harmonize with the generously dense fruit. While the broad and muscular palate is dense, persistent and opulent in intensity, it is not heavy thanks to its supporting acidity and finessed, mouthcoating tannins. The finish lingers, though the complexity is somewhat limited. Enjoy now through 2017.
