This wine’s impenetrable black core is circled by a deep maroon rim. The nose is intense, but it’s not overt. Graphite and tar lead the way, followed by black plum and boysenberry laced with vanilla. The palate is succulent and smooth with ripe and finessed tannins and medium, well-integrated acidity. This is a suave, mid-weight wine. The finish lingers, but it mostly favors oak notes of toast and caramel. Drink 2013–2016.
