Deep garnet in color with a slightly hazy core, the savory Old-World nose on this wine shows iron, earth, rosemary, pomegranate, ripe strawberry and vanilla notes. The palate is more advanced than the nose with no forward fruit tones. Still, what it offers is attractive—tobacco, dried leaves, earth and leather. This wine is highly marked by its structure. The tannins are pleasantly coarse and lightly drying, and the acidity is high. Though the wine has a moderate finish, its development suggests it is for drinking sooner rather than later. Drink 2013–mid 2014.
