This wine is very dark with a black-cherry color and a thin, crimson rim. The aromas are simultaneously sweet and savory, showing peak-summer blackberries, blueberries, gunpowder and charred wood. The startlingly dry attack is swiftly followed by marked acidity. The tannins are foursquare and chunky. The midpalate sees black plum, black currant, licorice, asphalt and dark-roast coffee bean flavors while the finish lingers pleasantly. This is a decidedly Old World wine best paired with hearty meat dishes. Drink now to 2015 as this is hitting its peak.
