Eye-opening with its extravagantly fragrant nose, this full-throttle red has a striking, regal quality with its imposing, ripe fruit nose. The palate blasts off with a wallop of black plums and cherries then immediately squeezes the palate with rather foursquare, sturdy tannin and high-pitched acidity. The unctuous, high alcohol and generously ripe black currant fruit sweep back in on the back palate to even out on the structured, peppery finish. It's a bit edgy but it works now with hearty food.
