Bewitching in youthful aromatics, this is a muscular, tightly coiled red with ample extract and respectable complexity. The opulent elderberry, black currant and black plum skin flavors are streaked with cracked black peppercorn and mint. Grilled meats and toasted nuts give the wine a decidedly savory edge. As hefty as a line backer, the roaringly powerful body is squared away by lightly edgy tannins and refreshing acidity. This could use more time to settle down, but the moderate finish suggests this is made for earlier drinking. It’s a great choice for those that like their reds as big and bold as they come.
