This wine gleams an impressive purple across its black core. The nose is fragrant and fruit focused, and there’s a surprise waiting for the palate. In the mouth, it is full of rich humus, minerals and game. This is a brooding, moody wine that lingers on the finish. The tannins are appealingly foursquare. The acidity provides just enough support to keep the taster returning to the glass, yet there’s not quite enough to provide refreshment. Still, the balance is fine enough that reading 15% alcohol on the label offers a surprise. Drink 2013—2019.
