This wine is earthy yet still has solid fruit tones, with the nose offering notes of red currant and tree bark. The palate is ample, even plump, but well centered thanks to grippy tannins and fresh acidity. The flavors turn more mature than the nose lets on–there’s very little fresh fruit left and instead shows tobacco leaves and forest floor. It would be an excellent pairing for foraged mushroom dishes. Drink now–2020.
