Opaque at the core, this aromatic and charismatic wine smells of camphor and damp evergreen needles. The palate is brooding and dense in flavors of iron, dry-aged sirloin and stewed black cherry. The strappy tannins and balanced but well-integrated acidity beg for a hunk of red meat. The solid finish turns minerally and earthy. Appealing now, this is clearly benefiting from a touch of bottle age but should hold nicely for several more years. Drink now–2021.
