Midnight black at the opaque core, this wine has an imposing, relatively youthful nose of boysenberry, black currant, freshly laid tar and vanilla bean. It is full bodied, with tingling tannins and vivacious, if slightly hard, acidity. Moderate in its mineral, lingering finish, there’s good fruit substance here, even if the fruit is leaning into overripe territory. It’s worth watching out for subsequent vintages of this wine. Drink now–2019.
