This deep black-brown wine with a mulberry rim is murky, suggesting it is unfiltered. Its nose is fleshy with a high level of ripeness, with scents of black cherries, plums and cassis that jump out of the glass. The palate is sumptuous and viscous, with seamlessly imbedded acidity and gossamer tannins that give just enough support to the full body and high alcohol. The finish lingers, with notes of savory spice, parched earth and asphalt. A leathery accent shows some initial evolution. It’s heady, expressive and comforting, and should drink well through 2018.
