This medium-deep red, with rusty influences from core to rim, predominantly shows attractive notes of parched earth, caramel and root beer. The flavors add in cherry syrup, watermelon Jolly Rancher and nougat. Even though the flavors are candied, the easy tannins and bright acidity give this decent drinkability. The clearly emerging tobacco and new leather notes suggest this wine is starting to peak, even if its refreshing structure and good complexity should allow it to hold for a while. Drink now through 2018.
