This wine’s rusty rim peeks out from its dark black core. The nose and palate are both tremendously advanced. A bit past peak, there’s still some underlying interest in the mix of sweet and savory spices, ketchup, griddled steak and tart cranberry flavors. At this stage of evolution, it’s definitely a wine for geeks. Given its good structure of refreshing acidity and mildly tugging tannins coupled with layers of flavor depth, a younger vintage is definitely worth exploring. Drink now through 2017.
