Near opaque in color, this wine has a black cherry core and dark cranberry rim. The nose is unyielding, showing an array of forest fruits. By contrast, the palate shows concentrated flavors of black cherries, popping-ripe blueberries, used tealeaves and hints of pencil lead. The grippy, boisterous tannins and bracing acidity work hand-in-hand to smartly balance this wine’s full body and seemingly bold yet balanced alcohol. The finish lingers on flavors of game, toasted hazelnut and crunchy blackcurrant. This drinks well now, but the layered intensity of this wine suggests a healthy life ahead, so enjoy now through 2020.
