Brown-black and opaque at the center, scarlet inflections appear toward the rim. Like its appearance, the nose shows some development in its freshly picked mushroom note. The palate brings on black pepper, sweet spice, charred game and damp cigar. The oak spice is nicely integrated and adds a touch of complexity to the modest flavors on the palate. The tannins are fine-grained but turn coarse and saliva-wicking on the medium-length finish. This is an intense wine that needs a meal and is probably near its drinking prime, so enjoy before 2018.
