Black licorice in color, this wine is impenetrable in appearance. The nose is brooding, with aromas of charcoal, peat and singed black-plum skin. Given its deep color, the palate is surprisingly forgiving, with some midpalate creaminess, mouthwatering acidity and pleasantly dusty tannins. Overall fairly simple, there’s enough concentration to carry the wine into a moderate finish. Though well suited to a seared steak, this is definitely drinkable on its own. Drink now through 2018.
